Dean Guitars was only founded in 1977 by Dean Zelinsky. Zelinsky thought that rock guitar design had stagnated (we had to agree) and decided to change things. The first Dean guitars were released in the mid-1970s and were indeed radical. These designs quickly gained popularity because of their great "fancy" looks and remain just as popular today.
